The year 2020 budget of N1.17trn for Lagos state presented to the State House of Assembly on the 7th November 2019 about two weeks ago by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be passed before the end of the year by the lawmakers.
Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Rotimi Abiru disclosed this while answering reporters questions at the venue of the annual national delegates’ conference of the Association of Hansard/Verbatim Reporters of Nigeria at Ikeja Wednesday.
He said the second reading of the Appropriation bill was taken on Monday on the floor of the House and that all things being equal the budget will be passed before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s budget of N10.33 trillion presented to the National Assembly on the 8th October 2019 will go through series of budget padding before appropriation.
It may take about 7 months for the Lazy Lawmakers to pass the 2020 budget. That’s why we can’t plan with Nigeria’s budget.
2020 budget of the Federal Government may eventually be appropriated by July 2020.
It is pertinent to note that early budget passage would solve a lot of issues and put the economic agenda on focus.
