Sixty two communities were on Monday reported to have been ravaged by flood after a heavy downpour in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to Leadership, one of the affected residents, Isaac Hikon, revealed that the flood also destroyed over 7000 houses, seven bridges and over ten thousand farm lands. He further explained that the torrential rainfall started at about 5am on Friday last week, and lasted for more than 12 hours, causing flooding in the major highway, especially the roads leading to the local government headquarter.
PROACTIVE APPROACH – There is need for strategic planning such that history would not repeat itself next year. Both Federal and State Governments should sit together to work on drainage systems in the state.
