CROATIA may have broken national records during their World Cup campaign, but their achievements have come at a price.
Danijel Subasic has announced that he is ending his international career on a high and retiring from the Croatian national team, alongside Vedran Corluka and Mario Mandzukic.
Subasic, 33, was his country’s star goalkeeper throughout the tournament and after ten years of playing for Croatia, he is hanging up his boots and gloves.
In an emotional post on his Instagram page, the shot-stopper thanked everyone that had shared the journey with him.
He said: “I want to thank all the trainers from the bottom of my heart- I’ve learned a lot from each of you! I would particularly like to mention Slaven Bilic who invited me to the national team and Zlatko Dalic with whom we have come to this incredible silver.
“Thanks to my family and to all the loved ones who have been with me since the first day and who could rely on me in all the difficult moments, and that was enough.”
